House Moves One Step Closer to Bringing Tax Relief to Middle Class Pennsylvania Families

Statement

Issues: Taxes

Congressman Patrick Meehan (R-Pa), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement today after the Committee approved H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

"Middle-class Pennsylvania families deserve to earn more and keep more of what they earn," said Congressman Meehan. "The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will help them to do it. A middle-income family of four in Pennsylvania's 7th District will see a tax cut of more than $5,100. That's more money in their pockets to make a mortgage payment or put their kids through school. Independent analysts estimate that the legislation will create nearly 40,000 Pennsylvania jobs by lowering taxes on small businesses to help them grow and hire.'

"I'm pleased to see the additional refinements and improvements made over the course of the committee's markup, like the inclusion of the Adoption Tax Credit. I'm hopeful that the bill will receive broad support among my colleagues when it's considered on the House floor and that the Senate will move forward its version of the tax reform legislation so we can reconcile any differences and get tax relief for middle-class families signed into law."
